Desi Calculator
Calculate the desi (volume) value that shipping fees are based on.
What is desi and how is it calculated?
Desi is the measure of the volume a shipment occupies. Desi = (Width × Length × Height) ÷ 3000 (cm). For example, a 100 × 50 × 75 cm package has a desi of 125.What is desi and how is it calculated?
Desi is the measure of the volume a shipment occupies, converted into weight. It is used to fairly price the transport cost of large but light shipments. Volumetric desi is found with the following formula: (Width × Length × Height) ÷ 3000 (dimensions in centimetres).
Example calculation
For a parcel measuring 30 × 20 × 15 cm, the volumetric desi is (30 × 20 × 15) ÷ 3000 = 3 desi. If this parcel's actual weight is 2 kg, the carrier takes the greater of the volumetric desi (3) and the weight (2) and calculates the fee based on 3 desi.
Carriers set the fee based on whichever is greater: the calculated volumetric desi or the shipment's actual weight (kg). Since some carriers may use a divisor other than 3000, we recommend confirming the coefficient your contracted carrier uses.
