What is the buybox?

The buybox is the seller who wins the featured purchase box on a product page when multiple sellers offer the same product on a marketplace. The seller who wins the buybox captures the majority of sales. Stokzone reads the buybox rank and buybox price reported by the marketplace; by monitoring competitor prices and staying competitive, you increase your chances of winning the buybox.

How does price competition (repricing) work?

Price competition is the rule-based and automatic adjustment of your selling price relative to the competitor/buybox price. Stokzone reads the marketplace's buybox information, calculates the target price according to the rule you define, and sends it to the marketplace with your approval or automatically, without breaching your minimum price protection.

How it works

The flow from rule to marketplace price

When the buybox engine is enabled on your account, these five steps run; until it is enabled, your live marketplace price is left untouched.

  1. 1 · Define a rule

Create a pricing rule: match the buybox price, undercut it by a fixed amount, or undercut it by a percentage. Set minimum price, maximum price, and minimum profit margin limits; choose which products and which platform the rule applies to.

  2. 2 · Periodic check

At the check frequency you set (5 min – 24 hours), a background job reads the marketplace's buybox information: your buybox rank and the buybox price. You can also start an instant check anytime with 'Check Now'.

  3. 3 · Calculate the target price

If you are losing the buybox, the system calculates the target price according to the rule (equal to the buybox price or a specific amount/percentage below it). If you are already winning the buybox, the price is left untouched; unnecessary price erosion is prevented.

  4. 4 · Protect the minimum price

If the calculated target price is below the minimum price you set, the price is not lowered — below-cost sales are blocked. Minimum profit margin and cost limits are also checked at this step.

  5. 5 · Approve or auto-apply → push

In the default mode a suggestion is created; once you approve it from the panel, the new price is sent to the actual marketplace. If auto-apply is on, a change that matches the rule is pushed directly to the marketplace without waiting for approval.

Competitor/buybox price data does not come from our own independent scanning, but from the marketplace's own buybox information service. The buybox price shown is the storefront price the marketplace reports at that moment.

What you can do

End-to-end management of buybox and price competition

From defining rules to minimum price protection, from check frequency to approval and automatic application.

  • Pricing rules

Turn your buybox strategy into rules. Set the target price with three rule types and choose the scope of the rule.

    • Match the buybox price, undercut by a fixed amount, or undercut by a percentage
    • Option to run only while the buybox is being lost
    • Create, update, and delete rules from the panel — scope by product and platform
  • Minimum price protection (profit protection)

Protect your floor even while competing. When setting the target price, the system never goes below the minimum price.

    • If the target price is below the minimum price, the price is not changed
    • Above-cost margin protection with a minimum profit margin percentage
    • If no explicit minimum is set, a floor is derived from cost (when cost data is available)

Below-cost sales are blocked; the price is not lowered for products that cannot be competed on.

  • Check frequency

You decide how often the buybox check runs. A background job automatically scans accounts whose interval is due.

    • Adjustable frequency from 5 minutes to 24 hours (1440 min)
    • Accounts connected to a buybox-supported marketplace are scanned periodically
    • Start an instant check with 'Check Now'
  • Approve or apply automatically

Decide whether control stays with you or is automatic. In both modes, the price change is sent to the actual marketplace.

    • Suggestion mode: review first, approve; the new price is sent to the marketplace
    • Auto-apply: a change matching the rule is pushed without waiting for approval
    • Pending suggestions expire after 24 hours
  • Cooldown and limit protection

To respect marketplace limits, checks and price submissions are managed with rate limits.

    • A 5-minute server-side wait (cooldown) for 'Check Now'
    • Protection against double triggering — a minimum interval between checks
    • When winning the buybox, the price is left untouched (no unnecessary changes)
  • Buybox tracking and price history

Track your buybox rank, the buybox price, and your own price; view the history of applied price changes.

    • Tracking of buybox rank, buybox price, and price difference
    • Filter only the products where the buybox is lost
    • History of approved/automatically applied price changes
